Whether you are just starting on your Industry 4.0 journey, or you are looking to move on from a system that is just not fit for purpose – implementing an MRP / ERP system may be one of the most daunting things you have ever had to do in your business. The options are endless, and it can turn into a mine field and become overwhelming!

The team here at Spitfire have been around the MRP / ERP systems business for a quite some time, and we’ve learned a thing or two about developing innovative solutions, as well as how we can help companies transition into using their new technology in a relatively painless manner. Let’s look at your options for implementing a scalable, cloud-based MRP / ERP software system with experts on your side.

What are your options? So, You know you need to implement or update your systems, but who should you turn to and where do you find them? We think you have three options

  1. DIY
  2. Industry leaders
  3. Implementation Experts

While the DIY route is possible, this is not a recommended route for the following reasons… A DIY implementation can work if your business processes are extremely simple and you or someone at your company has a strong MRP / ERP implementation background to draw from, i.e. they are an IT geek!! Whilst implementing your own MRP / ERP seems like a money-saving shortcut to begin with, you may be setting yourself up for a long road of troubleshooting with little or zero technical support. For a busy company, that can be a nightmare and end up costing you big bucks in the long run.

The other options seem to be a little more robust — ‘Industry Experts’ (think large firms with long, big-name client lists) or ‘Implementation Experts’ (smaller firms that offer a deeper level of personal support throughout the entire process). Both of these are viable options, but let’s delve a little deeper into the positives and negatives.

Industry Leaders – the big boys! These guys believe they are the leaders in the field for a reason. When working with a more prominent, more experienced firm – you know the sort, the one’s who have a budget to sponsor an F1 team, you get the benefits of year and years of implementations for a wide variety of clients. We are sure that no matter what industry you are in, they have probably already implemented several system into that type of sector.

With large providers, somethings got to give at some point, and sometimes they don’t always provide the one-on-one support that makes company leaders and their employees feel comfortable throughout the transition to a new MRP / ERP system. Typically, large firms don’t prioritise personalisation and relationship building with their customers, or partners as we like to call them. Because big firms have so many clients and have done so many implementations, you may end up feeling like a number being handed a one size fits all solution.

The personal touch! We believe that you shouldn’t have to choose between quality of product and quality of client care. Transitioning to a new MRP / ERP software system can be daunting for clients, and we wanted to create an environment that looks after the more emotional side of software. That may sound unusual, but we’ve found that providing ample training, personalised coaching, and ongoing support after go-live are all essential to a smoother, more successful implementation. Also, the fact that we have grown up in the industries that we are supporting is one thing you may find hard to source elsewhere. We feel that we can really help our customers out because we understand their businesses having previously walked in their footsteps. The most powerful resource for implementing an awesome MRP / ERP is the people involved – yes, we provide I.T. but it’s the back up and personal service which will help you to succeed.
